The First Proclamation
After the death of Saul, ... David remained two days in Ziklag; and on the third day, behold, a man came from Saul’s camp .... And he answered, “The people have fled from the battle, and many of the people also have fallen and are dead; and Saul and his son Jonathan are also dead.”
Then David took hold of his clothes, and rent them; and so did all the men who were with him; and they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son and for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword.
.... “How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan lies slain upon thy high places I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; very pleasant have you been to me; your love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.

The Gospel Proclamation
... and the crowd came together again, so that they could not even eat. And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for people were saying, “He is beside himself.”

Fix your gaze on Jesus
Jesus noticed that wherever He went people gathered around Him. Some sought redress and healing, whilst some accused Him and found fault with Him saying He is possessed by Beelzebul and casting out devils with the power of demons.

Prayerful Awareness
Jesus was a remarkable person in Jerusalem. He was considered by some as a rabble rouse, a challenge, while for some a great comforter. The Pharisees and the scribes, bent on holding on to power and glory, were out to criticise Him and even planned to put Him out of the way because He had a great following. Jesus did nothing on His own but carried out the Will of His Father, which was too much for the Pharisees, scribes and even to His own people and it is reported in the Gospel that His family hearing all this went to take Him away. Jesus has even once said, “My Father is working and I am also working.” This is why the Jews sought to kill Him because He equalled Himself to God and called God His Father. It is quite clear to everyone when one strives to do justice and be straight in one’s dealings, accusations are levelled against such a one and his opponents are out to destroy him. Jesus carried out His Father’s Will and plan even at the risk of His life. Let us too emulate Jesus. Be honest and sincere in all what we say and do for the reward is great in Heaven.

Prayer Starter
Lord Jesus, give ear to our supplications. Grant us Thy Holy Spirit. Give us the power and strength to serve the people whom we are called to serve. Amen.
