The Gospel Proclamation He called his disciples and said to them, “I have compassion for the crowd, because they have been with me now for three days and have nothing to eat. If I send them away hungry ..., they will faint on the way ... His disciples replied, “How can one feed these people with bread here in the desert?” He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said “Seven”. Then he ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and after giving thanks he broke them and gave them to his disciples to distribute ... They had also a few small fish and after blessing them, he ordered that these too should be distributed. They ate and were filled, and they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full. Now there were about four thousand people ....
Prayerful Awareness The Gospel Proclamation today is the feeding of the four thousand. Imagine the scene. Four thousand people have been ministered to by the Lord Jesus for three consecutive days. The food stock that they carried with them has exhausted. Our Lord, prior to dismissing the crowd is concerned about this and He performs the miracle. If we proceed to read the Gospel of Mark from vs. 10 onwards, there is an interesting conversation. Jesus is disappointed with the faith attitude of His disciples. The disciples are in a boat with Jesus and they have forgotten to bring enough bread for their journey. Jesus asks “When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him “twelve”. “And the seven for the four thousand?” “Seven”. And He said to them “Do you not yet understand?”
Gaze at my sonship Do I understand? Do I understand that the Lord is overall in command of nature and is not governed by the laws of nature that He Himself put in place? I believe in a God of miracles - a miracle is simply an event which the human mind cannot comprehend. God who created the Cosmos and man whom He put on earth wants the best for His creatures. That is why He sent His own Son to redeem us from the vice like grip of sin so that we can serve Him freely. Every redeemed person is a walking miracle. I also know that Jesus’ words “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you” is true. I also understand that man is in search for happiness and Jesus is the Way, the Truth and Life. I also understand that we who live in the post resurrection era are really blessed, because we have the priviledge of being vehicles for the Lord Jesus, i.e. Temples of the Holy Spirit.
